About the Curator

Tamara Reed Tran

Curator of Unbound, a museum-style storytelling project honoring Black history with clarity, context, and care.

Professional Leadership

As Chief Development Officer, I provide leadership and strategic oversight for fundraising, marketing, and communications at Marillac St. Vincent.

I bring more than 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, with leadership roles at Impact for Equity (formerly BPI), UCAN, The Family Institute at Northwestern University, Dystonia Medical Foundation, Rush University Medical Center, and Volunteers of America of Illinois.

My work centers on strengthening organizations and building sustainable systems so mission-driven institutions have the resources—and the voice—to serve their communities.

Community Engagement

I believe leadership extends beyond title—it is a responsibility to community.

Why I Created Unbound

Throughout my career, I’ve worked at the intersection of storytelling, strategy, and service. Unbound emerged from a simple conviction: history deserves context, dignity, and accessibility.

Too often, Black history is framed as trauma without culture—or celebration without structure. Unbound holds both: naming systems clearly while honoring identity, resilience, and global connection.

Each entry is designed like an exhibit: intentional, reflective, and grounded in the belief that memory is a form of leadership.

An Invitation

Unbound is my invitation—to tell the truth responsibly, connect history to the present, and imagine systems that protect freedom rather than limit it.
